LA PLATA, MD –Three people were pronounced dead after a two-car collision over the weekend, NBC Washington reports.

A man was driving a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica near the Hawthorne Road and Ripley Way intersection when he crashed head-on with a 2014 Chevrolet Impala.

Authorities arrived at the site of the accident at around 8 p.m. Sunday.

The driver of the Chrysler, a 44-year-old from La Plata, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The Impala’s driver and passenger were also killed at the scene, according to the Charles County Fire Department.

Local crews shut down the intersection for a few hours but later reopened the area at around 12:00 a.m. Monday.
