The accident occurred after 3 pm, WUSA 9 reported.

The 35-year-old man pulled over to the side of the interstate to inspect car troubles on his 2011 Honda Accord, and shortly after, he was struck by a 2022 Nissan Sentra.

The driver of the 2022 Nissan Sentra attempted to flee the scene but was stopped by eyewitnesses.

The 35-year-old man was identified as Davi Hernandez-Zelayandia.

The driver of the Nissan was identified as John O. Hess, 61, of Springfield. Police suspected he was driving under the influence.
