LORTON, VA – A 24-year-old driver died Saturday from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash in Lorton in mid-July.

According to Fairfax Now, the accident occurred on Richmond Highway near Woodside Lane around 5:00 AM on July 16th.

A 2010 Ford Fusion reportedly exited the roadway and crashed head-on into a tree. The vehicle caught fire on impact.

First responders were able to extricate the driver, 24-year-old Santos Casco Sierra, from the wreckage. Sierra suffered life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized for two weeks before he succumbed to his injuries on July 30th.

The Fairfax County Crash Reconstruction Unit reports that excessive speed and alcohol contributed to the crash.
