LISBON, MD – Several people were hospitalized after a chain collision of four vehicles this afternoon, WBAL TV 11 reports.
A Kia Sportage was traveling west on I-70 when it struck a Toyota Tundra for unknown reasons. The impact of the collision caused the Toyota to crash into a Honda Civic. The three vehicles blocked the roadway and an oncoming tractor-trailer struck them. The wreck was reported at about 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the area near the highway’s intersection with Watersville Road. Four passengers from the Kia were transported to a trauma center via airlift.
I-70 was shut down in the eastbound and westbound lanes as rescue personnel were on the scene.
It’s unclear what initially caused the crash. We will be following this story as police investigate.
