News: Garbage truck strikes, severely injures bicyclist

GAITHERSBURG, MD – A bicyclist is in critical condition after being struck by a garbage vehicle this morning, according to WUSA 9.

A garbage truck hit a person on a bicycle at the intersection of S. Frederick Avenue and S. Westland Drive.

Authorities responded to the scene of the accident at about 8:30 a.m. Friday, according to the Montgomery Fire and Rescue Department.

The bicyclist sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. They are reportedly in unstable condition.

Multiple lanes of the roads were shut down after the accident.

It’s unknown what caused the collision to take place.
