ACCOMACK COUNTY, VA – A collision involving a tractor-trailer claimed the lives of a driver and a passenger yesterday, 13 News Now reports.
A 2006 Ford Taurus collided with a tractor-trailer at the Highway 13 and Withams Road intersection. The Ford failed to stop at a stop sign, then struck the tractor-trailer as it was entering the intersection.
The driver of the Ford was pronounced deceased at the site of the crash. Emergency personnel took two other passengers to a hospital via airlift.
One 21-year-old was pronounced dead by hospital staff. Her husband is being treated for severe injuries.
Authorities reported that the tractor-trailer’s driver was not hurt in the crash.
Officials closed down Highway 13 in both directions, causing delays in traffic until about 8:14 p.m.
Troopers with the Virginia State Police Department are investigating.
