MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – Two were injured, and one was left dead in a several-vehicle crash in Rockville Sunday.
The collision occurred before 3:45 am on Interstate 270 South, according to a Maryland State Police press release.
A 2015 Tesla Model S first hit a 2007 Toyota Sienna on the northbound lanes of the interstate. Shortly after, a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze saw the strucked Toyota and attempted to move out of the way. However, the driver of the Chevrolet Cruze hit the Toyota.
Police booked 24-year-old Thabiso Mandela Mokuena, the driver of the Tesla, into custody, speculating that he was impaired. It is unclear what charges Moukuena will face.
Two passengers from the Toyota were hospitalized for unspecified injuries. Another person from the Toyota succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
