News: Pedestrian struck and killed while walking dog in Woodbridge

WOODBRIDGE, VA – A drunk driver struck and killed a pedestrian and their dog in Woodbridge late Saturday night.

According to WUSA, the fatal accident took place on Old Bridge Road near Cape Cod Court around 10:00 PM on June 18th.

A 2016 Ford Focus was traveling westbound on Old Bridge Road when the vehicle exited the roadway and crashed onto the sidewalk at high speed, hitting both the pedestrian and their dog. The Ford also struck a communications box and knocked down a power pole before coming to a stop.

The pedestrian, identified as 45-year-old Luis Perez, suffered critical injuries and died after arriving at the hospital. His dog, a 5-year-old Akita, died at the scene.

Police identified the driver of the Ford Focus as Banze Gentil. They have been charged with DUI involuntary manslaughter.

It was a very long process. Having patience for the due justice was the hardest part. All the staff was always very friendly, respectful, and informative of the process. I appreciated the short videos to explain the process and birthday well wishes. I have never been through anything like this. So this hopefully is my first and last. I had a horrible slip and fall accident due to my ex-boyfriend's family's negligence with a patch of ice on their patio (which they knew about but gave me no warning, still inviting me onto the patio). My ex was high as a kite! I severely broke my elbow and it required surgery. Never got an apology from the family and they never took accountability. I had to drive myself home so my mom could take me to the hospital that night. I'm still in pain every day almost two years since the injury and over a year of PT.
