PARKSLEY, VA – A woman was fatally injured and one man was trapped inside a vehicle after a crash yesterday evening, WAVY 10 reports.

The woman was traveling down Route 13 when her Chrysler 200 was struck by a car that lost control. Her vehicle then overturned into the opposite lanes. The wreck took place at about 5:10 p.m.

Police report that the man was driving southbound at excessive speeds when the wreck occurred.

The female driver died at the scene of the crash. She was identified as a 44-year-old woman from Bloxom. Nearby motorists extricated the other driver from his car. He was transported to a hospital via airlift, according to Virginia State Police.

Authorities closed down the road in both directions as emergency responders were working the site of the crash.
