OAKTON, VA – Two people died and three others suffered injuries after a two-vehicle crash involving pedestrians Tuesday morning.
According to ABC 7, the fatal accident took place at the intersection of Blake Lane and Five Oaks Road at 11:47 AM on June 7th.
A Toyota Pathfinder SUV was reportedly traveling northbound on Blake Lane and moved into the left turn lane to turn onto Five Oaks Road. The driver of the Toyota Pathfinder then waited for three pedestrians to cross the intersection before attempting to turn left.
While turning left, the Toyota Pathfinder was struck by an oncoming BMW traveling at excessive speed. The impact of the crash caused the BMW to exit the roadway, striking the three pedestrians that had just crossed the street.
Two of the pedestrians unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. The third pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries and is currently in critical condition.
Two passengers in the BMW also suffered minor injuries.
Several of the occupants of the BMW fled the scene on foot. Police have since been able to identify those involved.
The accident remains under investigation.
