WALDORF, MD – A passenger was killed last week after the car she was riding in crashed during a police pursuit, WUSA 9 reports.

An officer with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office pulled the driver of a Toyota Camry over for a traffic stop at about 8 p.m. last Thursday. The man attempted to evade the traffic stop and drove away on St. Charles Parkway, where police later found his car in a vehicle accident.

An occupant of the Camry died from her injuries in the crash, despite efforts from emergency personnel at the scene. The Camry’s driver fled the scene but was later detained by police and treated for his injuries.

The CCSO reports that drugs were a possible factor in the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
