ALEXANDRIA, VA – A woman died after she was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident Wednesday night.

According to FOX 5, the collision occurred on Richmond Highway near Huntington Avenue around 10:20 PM on July 6th.

A dark green 2007 Toyota Camry reportedly struck the pedestrian as they were crossing the road in a dimly lit area outside of a crosswalk. The driver of the Toyota Camry fled the scene and only later called authorities to notify them of the crash.

Fairfax County Police discovered the victim in the roadway with life-threatening injuries. The pedestrian unfortunately succumbed to their injuries in the hospital Thursday morning. Police identified the victim as 56-year-old Doris Anita McPhail.

Fairfax County Police continue to investigate the fatal accident.
